HOTELS & ACCOMMODATIONS

When it comes to choosing an accommodation, there are so many options out there that it can be overwhelming. While I personally recommend working with a travel agent (like me), if you want to research and book on your own, here are some great resources:

Tripadvisor: Booking hotels on TripAdvisor is a great choice for many reasons. With millions of real guest reviews, you get honest feedback about each hotel, helping you make an informed decision. Plus, the site offers detailed descriptions, photos, and ratings to guide your selection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury stay or a budget-friendly option, TripAdvisor makes it easier to plan your perfect trip with trusted recommendations and reliable information.

Booking.com: This is another great option and similar to Tripadvisor. I normally recommend using this if I can’t find the option what I’m looking for on Tripadvisor. Booking.com is also know to have better cancellation policies and more upfront pricing including taxes and fees.

Expedia: This is best for those looking to bundle multiple aspects of their trip together (flights, hotels, car rentals) and take advantage of rewards programs. This is also good for looking at VRBOs too!

EXCURSIONS

Viator and Get Your Guide are my two go-to websites for booking activities and excursions on my trips! You can check out reviews from other travelers who’ve done the activity, and they offer excellent payment and cancellation policies.

BEST TRAVEL CREDIT CARD

When traveling internationally, many credit cards will charge you foreign transaction fees. These fees are normally around 3% which may not seem bad, but they definitely add up. For example, if you spend $2,000 on a trip, you’d be paying nearly $60 in fees. However, Capital One doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees on any of their travel credit cards, which is why I love their cards for traveling! I like the Capital One Venture card best, but they have three different card options – one of which has no annual fees. Check out this link to learn more and apply.

FLIGHTS

My top two recommendations when searching for flights are Google Flights (free) and Daily Drop Pro (annual subscription fee.) I like them for different reasons – let me explain what I use each for:

Daily Drop Pro: This tool is great if you are a flexible traveller and simply want to shop good flight deals! You can setup the tool to notify you for low priced flights out of your home international airport. I can’t see deals out of the Green Bay (GRB) airport, but I can see deals flying out of Milwaukee (MKE) or Chicago (ORD or MDW.) I have even found flights from Milwaukee to Hawaii for less than $400 using this tool!

Google Flights: I use this tool when I have specific dates and/or a specific destination in mind. The tool allows you to see a wide variety of data and prices for free. Plus, you can set up alerts to receive notifications when prices drop, helping you find the best deals.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Purchasing travel insurance is a smart way to protect yourself from unexpected situations that could disrupt your trip. It provides coverage for a range of events, including trip cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, and travel delays, giving you peace of mind while traveling. There are tons of options out there, but I recommend Visitors Coverage. They are highly rated on Google and TrustPilot.
